This is a caterpillar that we found munching on som milkweed in our yard.
Scaredy’s moving nests away from a damp spot made by the water bottle (bottle removed for the photo)
Scaredy just found a wriggly baby running around, and is bringing it back to the nest.
Here’s Scaredy (the momma), with her 6 little babies.
Black: Larry (M), Curly (M), Joe (F) [was going for Larry, Curly and
Moe, but Joe(anne) was a girl, and we already had a Mocha]
White: Sugar (F), Cream (F) [I bet you want some coffee now, huh?]
Brown: B.J. (F) [Short for Banjo, her Grandmother, whose markings are exactly the same]
At this point, they’re about 2 weeks old.
This is little Sugar, (or her sister Cream, I really can’t tell) in my
hand while holding the camera in the other. So cute, huh? At this
point, she’s about.. let’s say 1-2 weeks old. Still only an inch or so
long, 2 with the tail.
Named BJ for her Grandmother, Banjo, because she has the same light-brown ring around the base of her tail.
Scaredy had dug the bedding over the spout of the waterbottle, making it leak, so the corner of the aquarium was wet. The nest was in the other, dry corner of the aquarium, but she moved it farther away, to make sure they stay warm.
Here are 3 of the baby gerbils; the pink one is a white gerb, the black one is a black gerb, and the multicolor one is a brown gerb.
These guys are a few days old in this photo.
Eek! It’s Ninja Squeaky!
